Truth in Politics
If you live anywhere in the USA at this time, you’re inundated with political commercials. One thing that amazes me is how each of those commercials seems to contradict the other. Lies and half-truths (which I was taught as a child is a lie) have me going to the internet in an attempt to find the truth. Even the deep-fakes on the internet itself make this a difficult process. All I want is the truth. No lies, half truths, things taken out of context. The truth, That’s it.
What Can We Do?
This morning as I was watching those fake commercials and the morning news shows, I began to think how we can address this? How can we get Truth in Politics?
Here’s How
If you’ve been to my site before and read the articles, you know I like to keep things simple. Same applies here. Want Truth in Politics? Here’s some very basic things we can do.
- Every candidate is fact checked – period. Whether the presentation is stump speech, debate, TV commercial, internet ad, doesn’t matter. We can either block whatever is not truthful, OR we can include a disclaimer on each ad indicating the truth score.
- If you think a truth score doesn’t go far enough I would agree with you. Above is something to get us started. A harsher penalty could be applied, however. We start with truth scores, then move onto fines, then ban the person from running for any political office and in extreme cases we can apply prison terms.
How to Implement
To implement the above is pretty straight forward. Use AI. This would take out the human prejudice we all carry. I’m not convinced 100% that AI is ready to tackle this burden, but it’s a start. We ‘could’ begin to implement now, then upgrade and expand implementations as the technology improves.
Politicians aren’t going to stop lying, telling half truths and take things out of contexts. When they do those things it is once again the people who loose. Implement Truth in Politics NOW.
